The vibration feature is dandy with NiMH D battery. The music player built into Baby M's Monkey Boucer doesn't work with NiMH AA batteries. The one exception so far is Baby M's Fisher-Price Monkey Bouncer Deluxe. I've tried NiMH batteries in several items and they just don't cut it. One thing I find very annoying is that baby gear tends to dislike NiMH batteries. 'course, I also prefer to use NiMH batteries when possible. Since they are so pricey and don't offer enough extra battery life to justify the expense, I tend to stick with other alkaline batteries for the devices that use them. They are expensive even when purchased at a place like BJs Wholesale.
The problem with them batteries is their price tag.
